How often do you check your bank statement? Doing this regularly and carefully can save you £££’s, as I recently discovered when it landed on my doormat !
My utility provider had charged me with £600 from somebody else’s bill & took the money straight out of my bank account as I pay via direct debit.
£600 in one go without warning !!
The refund will take up to 5 days to hit my bank account, so I negotiated a £50 credit to be applied to my next bill as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience.
You don’t have to rely on paper statements of course. You can check online, with your bank’s mobile app, at an ATM or pop into a branch (if you can find one). Or you can use a budgeting app that securely connects to your bank account (Which? have some guidance on the options and how to stay safe).
Moral of the story…
ALWAYS check your bank statement……it could literally save you hundreds of ££’s.
